“The World of Gulliver’s Travels”

· A new Disneyland ride

Lilliput

1. People get onto the boat ride, go through a tunnel that depicts a severe storm:

-dark: passengers can see a mural of a boat in a storm on the tunnel wall

-lightning projected onto the tunnel wall (flashes on and off)

-thunder, rain soundtrack

- brief narration to introduce story

-slight bumpiness of the passenger boat on the track

-blows air across (acts as wind)

-slight sprits of misting water towards passengers

2. Out of the tunnel: Reach the shore of Lilliput

-sign hangs from end of tunnel that says “Welcome to Lilliput”  

-early afternoon lighting

-boat travels around a huge Gulliver body that is tied to the ground by string

-Lilliputans standing on his body and moving around him

3.  Transition to Gulliver’s living in Lilliput- slight curve in boat ride track

-boat goes through Gulliver’s legs (like the Lilliput soldiers) with quick narration of reason why Lilliput and Blefescu are enemies(egg breaking quarrel); passengers see the two giant feet of Gulliver to the sides of them and soldiers everywhere getting ready for battle with shooting arrows, shields, etc.

-narration ends, heroic music begins

-then the boat passes through Blefuscu boats that are being pulled behind Gulliver (heroic music continues)

4. Why/how Gulliver leaves Lilliput

-To the passengers’ left -fire in the emperor’s wife’s palace-

-Gulliver’s back to the passengers (as he urinates on the fire)

-fog machine (acts as fire smoke) rolling through the passengers boat,Lilliputans yelling

-background: hear accusation of treason against Gulliver

-To the passengers’ right, see the Emperor and his court discussing consequences

-once accusation narration stops, emperor says Gulliver should be blinded and starved to death

-passengers’ boat sees Gulliver traveling out to sea back to England

-boat passes into a tunnel with the sign “Good-bye from Lilliput” above

Brobdingnag

Lilliput Docks, Get off on Dock (England), Make way to boat

Board boat

boat ride begins mildly (small world at disneyland)

mist, rain, thunder and lightning begin (signifies typhoon)

boat begins incline (rollercoaster rachet style)

boat is droped into large body of water, giant splash

boat begins to midly drift

you see a giant wading in the water

your boat is suddenly rocketed upwards (giant is picking you up)

you are surrounded by the faces of giants

walls come up and surround the boat, forming a box (gulliver's travel box)

the box moves slowly along a set of rails

as the box moves along the track, you see the giant city of brobdingnag (Scale will be massive)

you pass by the royal palace and you see the King and Queen

Suddenly, a giant apple comes bounding towards you (like the indiana jones ride in disneyland)

after the scare, you come to a stop at the end of the track and you are picked up by a giant monkey arm and rotated onto a parallel track going back the other way.

you continue slowly along and you come to a room where horrible, loud obnoxious music is playing (justin beiber)

box continues along a track and is slowly ratched up a giant hill (eagle picking up the box)

once the box reaches the apex, you are launched down the track at 80mph, the sides of the box fold down and you are back in your boat on the ocean headed home toward England.

Book 3

· Laputa

o Flying island

o Ride will appear as if you are high in the sky

§ Fog

o Poorly Built homes

o People with silly outfits and hitting each other with bladder sticks

o People don’t notice you because they are deep in thought

o Math and music and astronomy

§ Weird modern music playing throughout this section

§ People with strange musical instruments

o “Chamber of presence”

§ King on his thrown

ú Servant hits him with bladder stick and he says “Welcome to Laputa”

§ “Large table filled with globes and spheres, and mathematical instruments of all kinds.” P. 2406

· Descent into Balnibarbi

o As you descent you see some women trying to escape from the island with you

· Balnibarbi

o Going through the metropolis

§ “The people in the streets walked fast, looked wild, their eyes fixed, and were generally in rags”

§ “houses so ill contrived and so ruinous”

§ similar architecture to Europe

o Laputa occasionally blocking things out

§ Place goes dark for a bit

o Inter into the Grand Academy of Lagado
